Understanding Strokes Gained
Strokes Gained is a sophisticated statistical method that measures player performance relative to the field. For each shot:
- Positive values indicate better than average performance
- Values show strokes gained/lost per round vs. field average
- Rankings show player's position in field for each statistic
- Data is collected and averaged over the last 60 weeks
Example: A player with +0.8 SG: Putting gains 0.8 strokes per round on the greens compared to the field average.
